Literacy: Our essential question this week was "What can traditions teach you about cultures?" Culture is the way a group of people live. Traditions are things that are passed down within a culture from one generation to the next. We made connections by talking about some of the traditions we have in our families. The texts we read included: "Ready for Aloha!", "The Dream Catcher", "Yoon and the Jade Bracelet", and "Family Traditions". We worked on the comprehension strategy: visualize, the comprehension skill: sequence, the genre: realistic fiction, and the vocabulary strategy: context clues. Our grammar lessons focused on commands and exclamations. Our spelling words had the short vowel sounds of e, o, and u. |
Math: This week we used a number grid to find differences between pairs of numbers and played the "Number Grid Difference Game". We also reviewed calculator skills: adding, subtracting, and skip counting forward and backward; to provide practice for place-value skills. We reviewed money amounts with coins; to guide the children as they wrote dollar-and-cents notation and compared money amounts. We interpreted and drew a pictograph. We also solved problems involving money to provide opportunities to determine when a situation needs an exact answer or an estimate. If your child has access to Google Classroom from home, I would recommend that he/she works on Moby Max fact fluency when time allows. |
Wednesday, September 30th was our first "Learning From Home" day. All the children did a fabulous job with their work and returning it the next day. I would welcome feedback on how this day went for you. Was there enough to do.... too much..... was your child able to complete the work independently? Please send me an email to share your thoughts as we prepare for the next "Learning From Home" day. Thank you!
